Museu Histórico Nacional

We will know more about the collection classified as "Interiors", with objects used inside or around buildings, with the purpose of offering comfort and pleasure to its residents: furniture, kitchen and table utensils, illumination and decoration objects. In the Museum's collection tableware and furniture prevail. Their great variety demonstrates the taste of the urban Brazilian elite during the 19th century. More objects connected to great occasions were kept, rather than those of daily use. As for the furniture, great categories stand out: domestic use and for public utilization, where one finds objects that symbolize power, and the ones used for religious puposes - (Text extracted from the book "Museu Histórico Nacional", edited by BanK Safra in 1989)
