In 1906, with the urbanization made by Pereira Passos, a "Marvelous City"
is born with the aspiration to become the "Paris of the Americas", known
internationally in 1889, as a worldwide fair. The hundred years of
Independence inspired the realization of this event, and, like Paris, Rio
de Janeiro became a metropolis of international importance.
Over 3 million visitors circulated by the Fair's pavillions, inaugurated by
President Epitacio Pessoa in September, 1922, with the participation of 14
nations and all the Brazilian states.
The Exposition for the Centennial of Brazil's Indepedence remained until
july 1923, and transformed Rio de Janeiro in the most fascinating city of
Latin America, according to journals of that time.
