The National Historical Museum, with the sponsorship of the Government of
the Federal Republic of Germany. The Brazilian Ministry of Culture and the
National Bank for Economic and Social Development/BNDES, recuperated the
"Casa do Trem", an important edifice within its architectural complex, to
house the numismatic collection.
The restoration and adaptation of the "Casa do Trem", an edifice that
integrates the architectural complex of the National Historical Museum,
permitted the definitive installment of the Museum's numismatic collection,
one of the most important ones of its kind in the world, under the ideal
technical conditions and according to the international safety patterns.
A specialized library and the Center of Numismatic Studies are already
functioning, as well as the galleries for temporary exhibitions and the
space dedicated to the memory of the "Casa do Trem", that registers its
importance as one of the eldest public constructions in Rio de Janeiro.
Shortly to come, the opening of the permanent exhibition "The History of
Money".
